When it comes to building muscle and losing fat, probably the most important aspect is getting the right food and diet. If you don’t have this right you can do all the workouts in the world and load up on thousands of calories, but if you aren’t getting the right foods to help build muscle, you aren’t going to get anywhere. Protein

If you want to build muscle, the most important thing you need to eat is plenty of protein. Your muscles are composed of thousands of tiny bundles of tubes, which are made up of protein. When you workout, some of these tubes are torn and need to be repaired. To do this the body uses the protein you get from your food, to repair and grow new muscle tissue. Foods such as chicken, fish and red meat are the most common sources of high quality protein, as well as eggs and other dairy products. One of the best sources is tuna, as it has high protein content, with very little fat. Protein is essential to muscle growth. If you aren’t getting enough protein, you won’t grow muscle.

Fat

You may not think it, but is one of the foods to help build muscle and lose fat. The body stores fat when it thinks it will need to have reserves of energy. So if you no longer need to have these reserves i.e. through providing the body with a constant supply of energy throughout the day, your body will not see a need to store fat for energy. Roughly 20% of your daily intake of calories should be from fat, but remember that all fats are not the same, and each has their good and bad qualities. You want to concentrate on the good fats from sources such as Olive oil, Coconut Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Peanut and other Nut Butters, Mixed Nuts, Fish Oil and Avocado. Just be sure to stay away from trans-fatty acids and saturated fats.

Carbohydrates

To build real muscle, your body needs enough energy to repair and grow the muscles following a workout, and also needs enough energy to complete a workout. The amount of carbs you eat will have a direct effect on the amount of muscle you can grow. More often than not, you will naturally increase the amount of carbs you eat anyway as you start working out, as you will feel hungry when you don’t have enough. Carbs are what you should experiment with in order to get the best results. If you aren’t building muscle fast enough, increase your intake of carbohydrates. Or if you are adding on fat, drop your carb intake.

Water

It may sound obvious but water is vital to your success in building muscle, as well as keeping you healthy. Remember that the majority of your body is water, and needs to be kept hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will not only help you stay healthy, but it will also help you avoid becoming lethargic, and allow you to perform to your maximum when working out. So something simple like replacing your fizzy soda drinks with water can lead to some amazing results, both in building muscle and losing fat.
