Myths about Building Lean Muscle
Myth 1: Eating Fat Makes You Fat
This is completely wrong. The body needs fat to produce vital hormones, so you need to be eating a reasonable amount of fat in your diet. What makes you fat is eating crappy foods. The biggest influence in making you fat, is eating fast food and processed food that is full of saturated fat and preservatives. Your body is not designed to process saturated fats and all the chemicals that you find in processed and fast foods. It is basically a poison that your body doesn’t want to be dealing with. If you are eating loads of simple carbohydrates like white bread, chips, fries and other fast foods, the body doesn’t get enough of the fat it needs. So when it does get the fat it needs, it stores it in the body as a kind of back-up, as it isn’t sure when it will be getting useful fat again. Therefore you need to be eating healthy fats regularly. So if your aim is building lean muscle, eat some fats!
Myth 2: You Need To Spend Hours In The Gym Every Day To Build Muscle
This could be more wrong! After about 45 minutes, your workouts start to become counter productive, as the body starts to eat up the muscles that you have worked so hard to build up.
Your body also needs plenty of time to rest and recover. You do not build muscle when you are working out. Muscle growth happens when you are resting. After an intense workout it can take 5 or 6 days for the muscles to properly heal and grow bigger. So if you are working out every day you aren’t giving the chance to repair and develop
Myth 3: Ab Exercises Lose Belly Fat
Doing lots of abdominal exercises will not make you lose belly fat and will not give you a six pack. All ab exercises do is strengthen the ab muscles. If you want to lose fat and get a six pack, you need to eat less, eat better and do more cardiovascular exercise. This will lower your total body fat and your body will chose where to take this from. Spot fat removal is not possible.
Now here are the 3 tips to building lean muscle
Tip 1: Have A Good Workout Plan
A good workout plan to build muscle will ensure that you are doing the right exercises, at the right times, with the right amount of weight and with the right number of reps. If you want to build big muscles, you need to be doing a low number of reps with a high amount of weight.
Your workout plan should also be made up of compound exercises that allow you to workout a number of muscles at the same time, and thus lift more weight.
Tip 2: Have A Good Diet
You need to be giving your body the right things to use, and a good meal plan for building lean muscle with the correct muscle building foods. First need to be getting plenty of protein from sources such as chicken, fish, red meat, beans, dairy and eggs. Second you need to be getting enough complex carbohydrates like, brown rice, whole grains, oats and potatoes. Thirdly, you need to be getting enough healthy fats from nuts and seeds, olives and olive oil, avocados and coconut oil. Last thing you need to do is get plenty of fruits and vegetables that are packed with vitamins and minerals. These are vital to keeping your body healthy and allow you to build muscle.
You must also eat smaller meals 5 or 6 times a day, to give your body the chance to properly digest and use the food you are giving it. Drinking lots of water is also vital
Tip 3: Get Plenty of Rest
I’ve already covered this in myth 3, but your body needs to rest if it is to build muscle. You should only be doing weight training 3 times a week and for no more that an hour each time. This will give your body enough time to rest, repair and grow new, bigger muscle.
